It is no secret by now that I am a quilter, student and outspoken fan of quilting in its many aspects. When I tire of looking at glued together, painted, photographic, computer quilted and asymmetrical oddities, I return to the works of Kiracofe, Holstein and Bishop plus the Amish classics for reinspiration. Originality is a wonderful, blessed gift and it is my hope that all that is nouveau in quilting will not eclipse the classics in the lasting definition of quilting. And, that quilting will continue to be defined as design and sewing as artistic expression. Glue and speed, computerization and embellishment all have a place in the broad category of quilting; but not as more important criteria than skill and artistry. That’s my take on it. I love the new and cherish the history and tradition.
